What to Expect from Your Brand Photo Session

If you've ever wondered what actually happens between booking a brand photographer and walking away with a gallery full of images that feel like you, this post is for you. A brand photo session can feel like a big unknown, especially if you've never done one before. My goal is to make sure you feel prepared, excited, and clear on every step of the process before we ever step in front of the camera.

The Businesses I Work With (and What They Have in Common)

I work with a wide range of business types - creatives, coaches, therapists, and lifestyle brands. Some are service-based, some are product-based, and some are both. I work with artists and makers specializing in ceramics, painting, jewelry, floral design, and other handcrafted mediums.

What they all share is a need for visual storytelling that captures their brand's journey from beginning to end.

Your audience wants to see your process. They want to get to know you and the story behind what you create or offer. That's exactly what we build together.

Where It All Starts - The Discovery Call

Every brand photo session begins with a discovery call. This is where I learn more about your brand image needs and how you plan to use your photos.

Some of the most common reasons clients come to me include:

  • Updating their website with fresh, on-brand images

  • Launching a new product line

  • Bringing on a new team and needing updated portraits

  • Providing images for a magazine feature about their brand

  • Creating content for their social media feed or blog posts

Once I understand your goals, I create a concept for your session that reflects the look and feel of your brand.

The Strategy Session - Where We Collaborate

After the discovery call, we schedule a strategy session. This is where I share the concepts I've developed for your brand and we work together to make sure we're telling your story in the most compelling way.

By the time photo shoot day arrives, we have a clear, agreed-upon direction. Nothing is left to chance or guesswork.

This step also gives you enough lead time to gather any props or wardrobe pieces you'll need for the shoot.

What Happens on Photo Shoot Day

Brand photo shoots run two hours. That time is used intentionally to move through different setups and give us room to capture a full range of images.

Here's what we typically work through:

  • Portraits - professional, on-brand images of you

  • Lifestyle images - you in action, doing the work you love

  • Detail images - the products, tools, textures, and details that make your brand yours

  • Wardrobe changes - to give your gallery more variety and flexibility

I guide and direct you the entire time. We work through the photo shoot plan together, checking in as we go to make sure we're capturing everything your story needs.

You don't have to figure out where to stand or what to do. I've got you.

Why This Process Matters

People genuinely love getting to know who you are, what you do, and how and why you do it. These aren't just nice questions - they're the foundation of a visual story that attracts the right clients and audience to your brand.

My approach is collaborative by design. I create the concept and plan based on you, your brand, and your story. I direct the entire process so you can relax and focus on showing up as yourself. And my goal, always, is to make the experience as fun and enjoyable as the images we create together.
